SILK FANS

Please read before opening your fan

 

  • The silk fans you have purchased are 100% super fine silk and made in China.  They are a delicate item.

 

  • The FIRST TIME you OPEN your fans please do so with care, you may find that some glue from the manufacturing process has got onto the fabric close to the bamboo and the fabric has been stuck together, this is easily but gently fixed.  

    • Open the fan slowly and ease any pieces of fabric apart with your fingers slowly and carefully to avoid tearing the delicate fabric.

    • If there is a glue residue on the fabric, (only really an issue with the darker colours) this will scratch off using a finger nail or a coin or by rubbing the fabric together between your fingers, do either gently too.  If you can’t get it all off to begin with, don’t worry you will notice that flakes off and disappears with use.

 

  • Please do NOT wash your fan, the main stiff section of the fan is paper.

 

  • If you get a spot on the fabric, you can try a very mild mix of tepid water and hair shampoo and sponge the spot gently, if you notice any dye coming away stop.    The silk may watermark so be careful.   Pat the spot dry then allow to dry thoroughly lying flat out of the sun.

 

    • If you get a watermark and it bothers you, you will need a clean piece of white silk which you rub gently across and down the grain of the fan silk.  Don’t rub diagonally. (Shannon Lush – Spotless)

 

  • The fabric in your fan will be crushed when you receive it and will look best with a light iron. Please use a coolish setting suitable for fine silk.

 

  • Your fans may be a bit stiff opening and closing at first but will loosen with use.
