Hill Tribe Silver And now for something completely different. The beautiful Silver items below are handmade in the hill tribe villages of Northern Thailand and are 98% Silver. These are all Pendants but some of the smaller items could be purchased as a pair and used as earrings. I only have 1 of each of the larger items in stock, the smaller items I have 2 or more.
These would make great Christmas presents or a lovely alternative to Tribal Jewellery for street wear.
All of these hill tribe silver products are supplied by independent artisans and their working families. They are made in each artisan's village-home. In most cases, work is done underneath wooden homes set on stilts using tools primitive to today's standards means hours of melting, shaping and hammering to supply us with some of the most brilliant silver available on the market to date.
The sale of this jewellery supports the
Karen Artisan and Family Aid Program (KAFA) which is designed to assist up to 6 families simultaneously. KAFA
program aims to help build confidence in each family's working habitat,
particularly in the younger generation so that eventually each family is
knowledgeable enough to sell their products directly to the demanding
market.
Each Karen family create a particular line of products. For instance, one family creates small spacer beads of 2 millimeters to 5 millimeters in width. This is not because this family is unable to create any other hill tribe silver products, but rather, this is done so that each family will always have their own signature line.
By purchasing these products you are helping to support the Karen people and help them carry on their art and improve their standard of living.
