About Me My name is Merilyn (Shahari). I am a Capricorn. I have always
been fascinated by belly dance and was overjoyed to find classes locally back in
1997. l have been belly dancing
ever since and have been learning Tribal belly dance
Tribal dance has become almost an obsession for me as I'm sure you can relate to. I find myself practicing moves at the kitchen sink, walking down the hallway, driving in the car, I have to stop myself at the supermarket. But its not just the beautiful, strong, graceful dance moves that I enjoy its also the physical strength, flexibility and posture that the dance helps to build and as an older dancer this is important to me, helps to keep me young!!! I love the group dynamic and the earthy female spirit and friendship that is encouraged. The music is fabulous! I also love all the stuff that goes with it, the jewellery, costumes, makeup etc. and I spend hours putting costumes together or searching for Tribal goodies to either wear or sell on this site, I figure if I love it someone else is bound to too. Running this site is a great opportunity for me to communicate with my dancing sisters everywhere and I'm finding that the same spirit of friendship and mutual respect that exists in my tribe exists in the whole Tribal community and that's something to celebrate. Our tribe performs at the Tribal soiree's held within driving distance (3hrs) of Sydney, (I usually have a stall at these as well) and at Christmas parties etc. and we all have a great time practicing for these and performing, I try to look on the nervousness of performing as excitement rather than stress. After all for me its all about participation not perfection. This is me at Ghawazi's Everglades fund raiser in Feb 06

I work as a computer consultant / programmer. My husband Martin and I live in a rural environment and have 3 beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, I enjoy dancing (of course), reading fantasy / sci fi novels, cooking, wines, gardening, sewing, sculpting, movies and music and am trying to fit in the Darabooka as well. I hope to do some traveling soon, I spent some time in Egypt in 05 and am hooked on the Middle East and hope to see more of it in the coming years.

since June 05. I belong
to the Aziff tribe from Glenmore Park Sydney, taught by Sandy Burrow, of Ghawazi
Caravan, Sandy is more than our teacher she is our mentor and earth mother as
well. In November 06 we became a student troupe of Ghawazi Caravan.
